These little sugar cookies right here are my favorite cousin Molly and me. She was born the day before me, so our parents really got a kick out of dressing us in matching outfits and celebrating double birthdays. Which never bothered us, because although we lived in different states, we were best buds whenever our families got together for the holidays.
There were many summers where I got to spend a couple weeks in the McShane household, hanging out with my birthday almost-twin-cousin and we had an absolute blast. And by "blast", I mean somehow we managed to have endless amounts of fun just sitting in front of the back window hoping to catch birds in a trap. We would create plays, full of music we had written with lyrics that were complete and utter nonsense. Her dad had date nights every week with one of his 3 kids, and it was always Molly's daddy date night when I came to visit. We'd go to Culver's and have as many cheese curds as our little hearts could handle. Then we would go back home, watch Old Yeller or Little Women, and look forward to going to the big local public library the next day.
I remember when I got my first kiss. Molly came to town later that year for Thankgiving or Christmas and her response to the news was "ew". This was probably an indicator that Molly would be pretty picky about any guy she decided to date, let alone marry! All the young girls in the world could learn a thing or two from my sweet cousin. She stuck to her guns and waited for the right man to come along. She didn't actively seek out a husband, she didn't sit by the phone waiting for a man to call, she went about her life making great choices for herself and eventually Fritz happened.
Molly's friends knew her so well that they set them up on a blind date knowing they'd be perfect for each other. My aunt and uncle just "happened" to be driving by the restaurant they went to eat at, so they decided to sneak up and watch them through the window. Yes, you read that right. And yes, I'm totally going to do the same thing when I'm a mother.
So that brings us to the wedding day! Going to Wisconsin with my family to see my cousin marry him would have been enough, but being the one to document everything was really amazing. Watching the day unfold I noticed how calm Molly was. Not one single detail really mattered to her, because at the end of the day the only important detail was that she marry Fritz. The ceremony was short and sweet, the party was full of so much dancing, and they even had the Humane Society bring a tent full of adoptable puppies!
Molly and Fritz, thank you so much for letting me document one of the most intimate days of your life together. It meant the world to me, and I'm so happy for the both of you.
And a special thank you to all the wonderful people who made the day happen!
